I lost my admin job in 2022 and had R1200 and a gas stove I bought to survive loadshedding. I started doing braids for neighbours in my mom's garage in because at least gas doesn't care about load shedding. Eighteen months later I've got two chairs, a part-time girl helping me on weekends, and a whatsapp group of 100 clients who book 3 weeks out. My mom still parks her car yard. I think she decided that she doesn't mind.
